April Topic: Beta Fundamentals ~Dokokara~Instructor: Masa
Note: "Beta" -- the drum is placed vertically and the hitting surface is parallel to the floor; the most basic style of taiko. "Dokokara", a composition by Yuta Kato, draws its name from taiko syllabary, where “doko” means two strikes in the center of the drum and “kara” is two on the rim. -
May Topic: Quitiplas in the Pocket — Building the Polyrhythmic Foundation
Instructor: ManMan
Note: "Quitiplás in the Pocket" invites participants to explore the dynamic interplay between Afro-Venezuelan Quitiplás rhythms and polyrhythmic patterns through small drums and Naname movement drills. Participants of all levels are welcome—whether you are new to polyrhythm or looking to deepen your rhythmic and movement practice. Designed for movement enthusiasts of all levels, this 4-week course focuses on developing a strong sense of rhythmic “pocket” while strengthening coordination between hands, body, and spatial movement.
The May course emphasizes building a strong polyrhythmic foundation, while the June course focuses on expanding those ideas into movement, variation, and creative expression—each month is designed to stand on its own.

June Topic:
Quitiplás in the Pocket — Expanding the Polyrhythmic Toolkit
Instructor: ManMan
Note: This 4-week course explores Afro-Venezuelan Quitiplás rhythms and polyrhythmic layering through small drums and Naname movement drills. Naname drills are taught with adaptable stance and movement options so participants can explore the material in ways that work for their own bodies. Participants will deepen their rhythmic awareness while experimenting with variations, transitions, and movement pathways that expand how polyrhythm can be embodied and expressed.
- Monthly enrollment: $100 per session
