Bachi
Kashi/Oak is the the heaviest and hardest wood type that is perfect for playing the nagado/chu daiko. Kaede/Maple, a little softer than kashi, is also great for playing nagado/chu daiko. Tapered maple is useful for playing set drums (okedo & shime). Hou/Magnolia is perfect for children, smaller drums, and katsugi okedo because of its lighter weight. Hinoki/Cypress is the softest wood type and is normally used for odaiko and yatai. Take/Bamboo can be used on any style of drum. Its long and flat shape makes a unique sound when striking the drum.
