[2026 Autumn] David Wells - Composition Study (Thu 6PM)
Thu, 6-7:45pm
4 Week Course
October: 10/1, 10/8
Experience
Description
This course will help students understand methods for composing taiko pieces in order to:
- Improve pattern recognition and learn new pieces more quickly
- Recognize important relationships between different parts intuitively (e.g. how an odaiko rhythm interacts with a shime rhythm)
- Understand arranging or long-term solo development
- Compose pieces, whether full-length or shorter/transitional versions
The above goals are meant to be helpful and practical for any taiko player! Therefore, although students will perform exercises to practice composing, there is no "final project" that will result in a composed piece. For students wishing to write a piece eventually, this course will build foundation to set you on your way.
