Made by Tsuyoshi Maeda (former KODO member)

The bamboo used is a natural material. Please understand that the color and shape may differ from the photos depending on the materials in stock.

[Usage]

  • These are designed specifically for playing small-diameter drums with a high-pitched, tightly tuned head using rim shots.

[Features and Specifications]

  • Compared to conventional flat bamboo drumsticks, these are made thicker and rounder overall, allowing the force of impact to be more efficiently focused, enabling powerful and flexible sound production.
  • The bamboo is crafted so that the nodes are at the tip of the sticks, making them less likely to crack. Depending on usage, frequency, and care, they can be used for many years.
  • The drumstick shapes are based on three types: "Sasa no Ha" (bamboo leaf shape), "Hyotan" (gourd shape), and "Gyaku Taper" (reverse taper shape). Additionally, the bamboo is heated to gently curve the entire stick, reducing the chance of missed rim shots and improving the flexibility of hand angles when held. Moreover, the curvature of the entire stick acts like a spring, providing a bounce-back effect, making it very easy to play.
  • For the grip, underside leather is recommended. Also used on kendo bamboo swords, underside leather significantly improves hand feel and grip strength.

[Characteristics of Ho-Ho- and Un-Un- materials]

  • '穂-Ho-' uses Mousou bamboo from Hyogo Prefecture, which is denser and more flexible compared to the Mousou bamboo used in '雲-Un-' from Nagasaki Prefecture, allowing for a heavier and more compact finish. By taking advantage of its mass, it can be finely shaved without becoming too light, enabling rich control over detailed phrases and leather sounds. It is easy to create nuances in phrases, and it can also produce power when needed, making it a versatile type. It is suitable for small ensembles, soft and loud dynamics, and technical performances.
  • Comparatively, '穂-Ho-' is like maple wood, while '雲-Un-' is like hickory wood.
