SEATTLE TAIKO CREATIVE COMPOSITION CHALLENGE 2025
Hello Taiko people!
I, Elias Chanteloup, CHALLENGE YOU to participate in a work in progress show at Seattle University’s Pigott auditorium on March 8th, 2025. This is an open invite to anyone in the community! I want to bring everyone together and do a joint performance showcasing BRAND NEW compositions (written for this event preferred). If it’s not your cup of tea, that is okay!
This is an entirely free event that is meant to bring us together and push our creativity to the next level. There is no prize and no honorarium! Just the spirit of creativity and getting together to show each other what we’ve been working on. Online submission info on the second page!
Rules:
-
Each group/collective that participates must perform 1-2 songs. At least 1 song must be an entirely new composition.
You can participate as your group or form smaller groups with others from across the community, if your group allows it. You also don’t need to be an active member of an established group to participate! - You are not limited to performing only once. If you choose to form smaller collectives, you can play with your collective as well as your main group.
- You pay the fee of $0 to participate.
- You cheer on everyone participating!!! This show is a way for us to show songs that are WIP so don’t expect everything to be perfect.
- You don’t have to be from Seattle to participate! 😮
- COMPLETE CREATIVE FREEDOM - DO WHATEVER YOU WANT LOL
- Have fun! Or else.
PLEASE NOTE: Performing spots may be limited depending on how many people apply 😬
As we get closer to the date - I will create a schedule for arrival times, rehearsal, load in, and the performance itself. I would anticipate this being an all day commitment.
There will be opportunities for us all to jam together! Hoping to do something either Saturday evening or Sunday during the day so out-of-state groups can meet and hang out with Seattle RTG.
ALSO, this event will be open to the public! Anyone can come to watch - free of charge. There will be a suggested donation as well. As we get closer to the event I will come out with more information. SU Hidaka Taiko will also be selling food at the event to fundraise for their ITI trip!
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this google form and I will reach out:

INTEREST FORM CLOSES ON JANUARY 3RD.
FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE THE TRIP BUT STILL WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHALLENGE:
I still challenge you to come up with a new composition by March 1st, 2025. Post a video of your composition online, reference the challenge in the title or description, and send it to me at chanteloupelias@gmail.com.
We will be hosting a livestream of online participants after the in person show - please let me know if you’d like to be a part of the livestream and please fill out the form as well!
I’d love to see everyone push themselves to come up with something new! Unless you don’t want to 🙂. Which is totally okay too lol.
Please reach out if you have any questions chanteloupelias@gmail.com or dm me on instagram or discord or wherever you have me!
