PROTA is proud to present EMBARK, a concert that celebrates our group's continuing sojourns through the art of Japanese taiko drumming.
The sound of the taiko drum has been closely associated with Japanese festivals, gatherings, and culture since the Middle Ages. We believe in the power of taiko to, even today, illuminate common ground across uncommon boundaries, to forge meaningful and lasting relationships, and to bolster the positive development of both individuals and communities. Prota strives to embrace both the strength of tradition and the freedom of contemporary inspiration in its artistic direction.
For this concert, we wanted to showcase both the individual talents of our members, and the brand new creative identity that our recently-expanded roster has brought to the ensemble as a whole. Like a musical potluck, each member of Prota has prepared an offering for this maiden voyage. We’ve got some new twists on some old favorites, as well as several brand new compositions that we can't wait to share with you.
